Objective:
Make Long Island a national model for veteran care with faster access, stronger mental health services, real housing support, and a Northport VA that finally lives up to what the men and women who served this country deserve.
Why This Mission Matters:
Chris Gallant didn’t just serve. He flew Black Hawk helicopters. He came home. He watched what happened next, to himself, and to the people he served alongside.
For too many veterans, the hardest part of military service isn’t the deployment. It’s coming home to a VA system that makes you wait months for an appointment, file paperwork that would test anyone’s patience, and navigate a bureaucracy that was supposed to be there for you but too often feels like it’s working against you.
Long Island is home to tens of thousands of veterans. Many of them depend on the Northport VA Medical Center for healthcare, mental health support, and the services they earned through their service. Too many of them are waiting too long, getting too little, and feeling like Washington has moved on.
The veteran suicide crisis is real. Veteran homelessness is real. The gap between what we promise the men and women who serve and what we actually deliver is real, and it is a national disgrace.
Chris Gallant knows that “thank you for your service” is not a policy. It’s a starting point. The mission doesn’t end when the uniform comes off. In Congress, he will fight to make sure it doesn’t.

- Protect veteran benefits from political cuts.
- Increase funding for veteran housing initiatives and homelessness prevention.
- Improve transportation access for veterans traveling to medical appointments.
- Expand job training, apprenticeship, and transition programs for veterans entering civilian careers.
- Support local veteran organizations across Suffolk County that provide direct assistance, community, and advocacy.
- Ensure women veterans, LGBTQ+ veterans, disabled veterans, and younger post-9/11 veterans receive care that reflects their needs.
The Northport VA should be a center of excellence for Long Island veterans. Chris will fight to ensure it has the staffing, resources, modernization funding, and accountability needed to serve veterans with dignity. Pushing Washington to invest in better facilities, faster appointments, expanded specialty care, stronger mental health services, and improved outreach so no veteran falls through the cracks.
