The Mission Plan 2027

As a military pilot, firefighter, union leader, and public servant, Chris Gallant understands that missions succeed because there is a plan. The Gallant Mission Plan 2027 is a roadmap for what Chris will fight to accomplish during his first term in Congress, focused on bringing federal resources back to Long Island and delivering measurable results for NY-01.

Our Six Point Mission plan is the roadmap to a better future for Long Island.

Mission One: Lowering the Cost of Living on Long Island

Objective: Lower the cost of living so Long Island families can stay here, raise their children here, and give the next generation a real shot at buying a home in the communities they grew up in.

Before I left for my last deployment, one hundred dollars could fill an entire shopping cart. Today, I am lucky if it covers a couple of bags. Life on Long Island has become unaffordable. Health care feels out of reach, education is harder to access, and childcare costs are through the roof.

Too many young people are told that higher education is the path to opportunity, only to graduate buried in debt with fewer chances to get ahead. I am still paying off my own student loans, and I know how hard it is to build a future when debt follows you long after graduation. That pressure makes it even harder for young people to stay on Long Island and put down roots.

I saw the cost of living take its toll early in my life. When I was growing up, my family felt the impact of Long Island’s rising costs firsthand, as we were forced to leave because staying was no longer affordable. That experience stayed with me. No one should have to choose between staying close to family and being able to afford a decent life.

Long Islanders are working harder than ever and still falling further behind. Affordability is about fairness, opportunity, and respect for the people who make this region work. I will fight to make Long Island a place where working families, young people, and seniors can not only stay, but build a real future.

How we accomplish this

Fight to expand SALT deductions so Long Island homeowners can keep more of what they earn.
Lower everyday costs by cracking down on price gouging in groceries, fuel, and housing-related essentials.
Expand housing supply responsibly by supporting federal incentives for transit-oriented development near LIRR stations, while protecting suburban neighborhoods from overdevelopment.
Reduce student debt burdens by expanding income-based repayment, protecting Public Service Loan Forgiveness, and refinancing high-interest federal student loans.
Support working families through expanded Child Tax Credits and childcare affordability programs so young families can stay on Long Island.
Hold corporations accountable for buying affordable housing and price gouging.

Mission Two: Prepare Long Island for the Future

A) Future Storms: Fortify Long Island

Objective:

October 2012. Most Long Islanders don’t need to be reminded of what Superstorm Sandy took from them.

Homes destroyed, neighborhoods underwater, and businesses wiped out overnight. Thousands of families were without power for days; many for weeks. Beaches, marinas, roads, and wastewater systems took years to recover and communities are still feeling it.

Sandy wasn’t just a storm, it was a stress test; Long Island’s infrastructure failed.

The question isn’t whether the next major storm is coming. The question is when and will webe ready. Right now, the honest answer is: not enough.

Extreme weather is intensifying. Coastal flooding is worsening. Long Island’s electric grid remains vulnerable. Drainage systems that were outdated before Sandy are still outdated today. Unfortunately, too many of the federal investments that should have come home to Suffolk County never came.

Chris Gallant is a Black Hawk pilot, air traffic controller, and firefighter. He understands that you don’t wait for the emergency to prepare for it. You build the systems, train the teams, and secure the resources before the alarm sounds because once it does, it’s too late to start.

In Congress, Chris will fight to make sure Long Island is never caught unprepared again.

B) Built To Last: Modernize Critical Infrastructure

Objective:

Fix what’s broken, build what’s needed, and make sure Long Island’s roads, bridges, water systems, and broadband reflect what Suffolk County taxpayers actually pay into. Starting now.

It’s not a funding problem. It’s a priority problem and it ends when Suffolk County has a congressman who fights to bring those dollars home.

How we accomplish this

Bring federal infrastructure dollars home to modernize Long Island’s roads, bridges, rail, and power grid.
Strengthen storm resilience by fully funding coastal protection, flood mitigation, and grid hardening projects left unfinished after Hurricane Sandy.
Modernize transit to improve LIRR reliability, reduce commuting costs, and support local economic growth.
Prioritize shovel-ready projects so Long Island isn’t stuck waiting while federal dollars sit unused.

Mission Three: Protect Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, and Provide Affordable Health Care

Objective:

Protect the health care and retirement security Long Islanders have earned, lower prescription drug costs, and make health care more affordable, reliable, and accessible for every family.

Programs like Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security are the backbone of health and retirement security for millions of Americans who paid into them over a lifetime of work. This issue is personal to me. My parents rely on Medicare, and I have seen firsthand how much that stability matters for families who did everything right and need the right access to care. I also know how broken the system can feel even when you are insured. I have stood at the pharmacy counter myself and been shocked by the cost of prescription drugs. Prices like these force people to make impossible choices. Too many families are one illness or accident away from a financial crisis. Seniors worry about affording care after a lifetime of work, and people with disabilities and chronic conditions deserve stability, not uncertainty. I believe health care should provide peace of mind, not fear, and I will fight in Congress to protect and strengthen affordable, reliable health care for every family.

How we accomplish this

Oppose any cuts or privatization of Medicare, Medicaid, or Social Security.
Protect Social Security and Medicare for current and future generations.
Lower prescription drug costs by allowing Medicare to negotiate prices.
Cap out-of-pocket prescription drug expenses so seniors and families are not crushed by rising costs.

Mission Four: Supporting Veterans and Military Families

Protect Our Veterans

At 17, I enlisted in the Army National Guard, where I served overseas as a controller and Black Hawk helicopter pilot. I know the work and dedication it takes to serve our country to the fullest. Veterans deserve more than words. They deserve action. Like many veterans, I have relied on the VA for my own care. At the Northport VA, I have seen firsthand how dedicated staff work tirelessly under immense pressure. The doctors, nurses, and support workers are doing everything they can, but they are stretched thin, overworked, understaffed, and asked to do more with less. Veterans feel that strain when appointments are delayed, services are harder to access, and care becomes more difficult to navigate.

Make Long Island a national model for veteran care with faster access, stronger mental health services, real housing support, and a Northport VA that finally lives up to what the men and women who served this country deserve.

In Congress, I will fight to make sure our first responders have the federal support, funding, and coordination they need to do their jobs safely and effectively. Public safety depends on police officers, firefighters, EMTs, and dispatchers working together, and on leaders in Washington listening to those on the front lines. I believe real safety comes from collaboration, accountability, and trust, and from solutions that strengthen communities, prevent crises before they happen, and ensure Long Islanders feel secure at home and at work.

How we accomplish this

Fully staff and fund the VA, including the Northport VA, so veterans get timely, high-quality care.
Expand access to mental health services, with faster appointments and crisis care treated as urgent, not optional.
Cut VA bureaucracy so veterans can navigate benefits without fighting paperwork for years.
Support transition programs that connect veterans to good-paying jobs, apprenticeships, and education.
Honor service with action, ensuring veterans and their families are supported long after the uniform comes off.

Mission Five: Supporting Labor and Working Families

Objective:

Fight for the wages, protections, and opportunities that Long Island’s working people have earned, and build an economy where a union card still means a path to the middle class.

I am not coming to the labor movement as an outsider making promises. I am an air traffic controller and firefighter. A union member. Someone who has sat in the meetings, worked the shifts, and understands that a union contract isn’t just about wages, it’s about dignity, safety, healthcare, retirement security, and the basic guarantee that if you show up and do the work, the system won’t cheat you out of what you earned.

Chris knows that unions are not just about wages. They are about dignity, safety, stability, healthcare, retirement security, and a fair shot at the middle class.

That is why his campaign is proud to stand with working people and labor allies whose members represent the heart of public service, healthcare, and essential work across New York. These are the workers who showed up during the hardest moments, cared for our families, and kept communities safe.

In Congress, Chris will make sure Long Island workers have a seat at the table, not just corporations, lobbyists, and special interest groups.

How we accomplish this

Expand workforce development grants for young people, veterans, and career changers.
Bring federal infrastructure projects to Long Island that create good-paying local jobs.
Invest in manufacturing, clean energy, construction, healthcare, and skilled trades.
Support project labor agreements for federally funded infrastructure projects.
Listen to the front lines, policy should be shaped by those doing the work, not politicians guessing from Washington.

Mission Six : Restoring Trust in Government

Objective:

Restore trust in government by bringing transparency, accountability, and integrity back to Washington.

Why This Matters:

Americans are losing faith in Congress, and for good reason. Recent polling shows congressional disapproval has reached historic levels, with Gallup reporting disapproval at 86% in April 2026, tying a record high. RealClearPolling’s average from late April through late May 2026 also showed only 19.7% approval and 68.7% disapproval of Congress.

That is not just a polling number. It is a warning sign. People feel like Washington is broken, politicians are looking out for themselves, and regular families are being left behind. Long Islanders deserve a representative who is accessible, honest, and accountable to the people of Congressional District 1.
